ROLE OF RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PIPING AND INSTRUMENTATION IN OIL AND GAS

Each and every instrument stands on his own as per the requirements of the operation. This requirements should be come across by piping while locating them. In order to get away with the later conflicts it’s finest to have a communication between the Piping and Instrumentation departments at frequent Interval.
To localize those instruments, inputs are basically resulting from the Process and instrumentation departments.

Basic Inputs:

  • P&ID drawings which reflect all instrument requirements on a pipe line.
  • Instruments Hook Up Drawings.
  • Flow Meter Requirements.
  • Control Valve Datasheets.
  • Dimensional Drawing of the Control Valves, Analyzer, Orifice Plates, Level Instruments, Density meters, Flow Instruments, Miscellaneous Instruments, etc.…

Collaboration between Piping and Instrumentation:

  •  Inputs from Instrumentation:

                        Design:

1.     Instrument Hook-up drawings – To provide the adequate information how instruments should be connected to piping.
2.     Datasheets related to Valves like control, ESD, MOV, AOV, HOV, GOV etc.…
3.     Dimensional Drawing of the related instruments.
4.     Clash checking with the instrument drawing while designing the ducting, panels, cable routing, etc.…

Construction:

1.       Site verified and location viability to be confirmed prior to fabrication.
2.       Accessibility of Instruments to be confirmed.

  •  Outputs from Piping:

            Design:

1.     Minimum straight length requirements to be checked wherever the requirement is obligatory.
2.     Isometric to be provided to instrumentation to verify their requirements and standard obligation.
3.     Valve Datasheets and Connection points to be confirmed to avoid material conflicts.
4.      To provide 3D Model for Instrument Check.

Construction:

1.      Prior to fabrication the drawing to be verified with Instrumentation for the on field requirements.
2.      Dimension to be verified and confirmed with the Instrumentation to prior to Fabricate.
